Elimu: 4th Annual Charity BBQ
When: Saturday July 9th, 10am – 4pm
Ottawa-based charity, Elimu hosts their 4th Annual Charity BBQ at M&M Meat Shop – Manotick (990 River Rd.) Funds will go to support Elimu’s new digital resource centre in
Malindi, Kenya. The Centre uses digital technology to give vulnerable students all the tools they need to succeed in their studies.
Elimu which means education in Swahili is all about local collaboration and sustainable development. In the past 10 years they have: built Upendo Nursery School for 130 of the youngest members of Sabaki Village; helped over 40 young women with income generating skills and tools to start their own sewing businesses through the Heri
Sewing Project, and kept nearly 40 kids in school who would otherwise have become drop outs through the Nyumbani Kwetu Home for Children and Stay in School Sponsorship Project.
Donations of $20 or more receive an official receipt for income tax purposes. Receipts are valid for Canadian residents. All proceeds go direct to projects as all administrative costs are covered by the Elimu founder. Donations can be made at www.elimu.ca

Music and Beyond presents: Oliver Jones

Although most people know Oliver Jones as a jazz pianist, his studies were actually in classical piano where he developed a immense love of the great composers, everything from Bach to Chopin, to the modern composer George Gershwin. Oliver Jones will be playing a brand new show for his Music and Beyond concert opening with a solo piano performance of renditions of some of his favorite classical pieces, and following with an homage to his friend and mentor, the late Oscar Peterson with musicians Éric Lagacé on Bass and Jim Doxas on Drums.
