As you may know, during the difficult NAFTA renegotiations last year, the Canadian Government changed the Trade Minister’s title to the Minister of International Trade Diversification. At the same time the members of the African Union were finalizing a Continental Free Trade Agreement. Having recently published a Vision Paper on Canada-Africa Relations (https://asg-2019-vision-paper-pour-renforcer-les-relations-entre-le-canada-et-lafrique/), which inter alia called on the Canadian Government to pursue enhanced trade relations with Africa, the Africa Study Group is pleased to announce its next event, a panel discussion on “Canadian Trade Diversification with Africa”.

Pendant les négociations difficiles pour le renouveau de l’ALÉNA l’an dernier, le Gouvernement a changé le titre du Ministre du commerce international à celui de Ministre de la diversification du commerce international. À le même période les membres de l’Union africaine finalisaient un accord continental de libre-échange. Le Groupe de réflexion sur l’Afrique a récemment publié un Document de vision sur les relations Canada-Afrique (https://asg-2019-vision-paper-pour-renforcer-les-relations-entre-le-canada-et-lafrique/), qui a demandé au Gouvernement du Canada de renforcer nos liens commerciaux avec l’Afrique. Le GRA est donc heureux d’annoncer que sa prochaine rencontre sera un panel dont le sujet sera “La diversification du commerce et l’Afrique”.
