Call for Fellows: Academy of African Urban Diversity (AAUD)

The AAUD supports a new generation of scholars in the humanistic social sciences pursing research that advances knowledge about mobility and urban diversity in Africa. We welcome applicants from all social sciences disciplines, including but not limited to anthropology, contemporary history, sociology, political science, economics, human geography, urban studies, and planning. We also encourage applicants from other disciplines who engage expressly with urban theory. Applicants should have completed data collection by the time of the academy, and be in the initial phase of the write-up period. While we push for theoretical engagement, projects should be empirically grounded.

The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) is seeking post-doctoral fellows to join a five-year research programme entitled ‘Mobility and Sociality in Africa’s Emerging Urban.’ This initiative is a scholarly response to unprecedented levels of urbanisation and mobility driven by conflict, ambition, and respatialising economies. It is intended to develop African-based contributions to theories of human mobility and transforming modes of social engagement, authority, representation, and expression.

Funded PhD Opportunities: Multinational Enterprises And Sustainable Development Goals In Sub-Saharan Africa

University of Portsmouth is offering fully-funded, full-time three-year studentship with stipends in line with that offered by Research Councils UK of £14,553 per annum for this research project which attempts to identify organizational capabilities, characteristics and practices of Multinational Corporation contributing to successful and context-sensitive collaboration with local stakeholders (including informal economy actors) to achieve Sustainable Development Goals in a just and ethical manner.

Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Center for African Studies of the University of Porto hold the “Elections in Africa” Conference which is to become the inaugural Conference in the series of jointly organized biannual conferences under the umbrella title of “Internal Changes and Foreign Policy of African Countries.” The Conference 2 will take place on the premises of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The African Leadership Centre (ALC) is calling for applications for the Peace and Security Fellowship for African Women for 2018/2019. This Fellowship is an intellectual and financial award to those who are able to portray convincing demonstrable or potential capacity to bring about intellectual, policy or other change in their field. Presentation/Panel discussion. “Addressing equity through meaningful engagement with the African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) community in health research”

This event will comprise of a three-part health equity community dialogue to raise awareness about African, Caribbean, and Black community health research and community development work in Ottawa. It will identify strategies for advancing this work and building capacity. Part 1 will be an interactive photography exhibition broadcasting community voices, part 2 will highlight the Loyer-DaSilva Research Chair`s ongoing projects and part 3 will meaningfully engage a panel of community partners in an interactive health equity discussion. Event hosted by Professor Josephine Etowa, Loyer-DaSilva Research Chair in Public Health Nursing.
